I never appreciated money until I was bankrupt

I never appreciated trust until I was cheated on.

I never appreciated money until I was bankrupt: Appreciating a peaceful relationship. Jan-Willem van der Heiden, relationship coach, in Bali

I never appreciated peaceful love until I had lived inside a toxic relationship for two years.

I never appreciated my eyes until the doctor told me there is 70% to never see again.

I never appreciated a woman who showed up consistently until I'd spent long enough chasing ones who didn't.

I never appreciated silence until I lived with someone whose anger was their go-to every day.

I never appreciated a friend who told me the truth I didn’t want to hear, until I'd surrounded myself with people who only told me what I wanted to hear.

I never appreciated my mother until she was gone and I couldn't hug her again

I never appreciated the ordinary Tuesday, not being able to hear my wife across the table because our daughter is loud, until they went on a trip by themselves for a week.

Here is what I've noticed, in myself and everyone I've worked with: we are not built to value what we have. We are built to pursue and complain of what we don't have.

It's a human design flaw. But a design flaw you don't see, is one you'll keep tripping over.

Most people wait. They wait until the bankruptcy, the diagnosis, the divorce, the funeral. Then they feel it. Then they understand what they have. The problem is that understanding often arrives a little too late.

You don't have to wait for the loss.

Message me if you feel like now is the time.
