Do you want your partner to feel loved?

Most people stop at "I love you."

Do you want your partner to feel loved?: How to make your partner feel loved. Jan-Willem van der Heiden, relationship coach, in Bali

If you want your partner to actually feel loved, you have to go further. You have to give it context. You have to make it specific enough that she can't mistake it for something you'd say to anyone.

Here's how it works.

Start with the feeling. Tell her you love her.

Then tell her why. Specifically. What is it about her that you love? Name the thing.

Then tell her why that matters to you. Why does that quality mean something? What does it touch in you?

Then tell her how it affects you. In your body, your day, your choices. How does her presence actually show up in your life?

Then tell her why that lands the way it does. What's the history behind it? Why does that particular thing reach you?

Then tell her how that changed you. What version of yourself didn't exist before her and does now. Be specific. Say the thing that's true.

Then tell her how much you love who you've become and why. Then tell her that this version of you is grateful to her because of that.

Having her feel she helped build the man doing the loving is one of the best gifts you can’t buy.

She'll feel it.

Deeply.
