The right man will hurt your feelings
He won’t lie to you. He won’t nod along to keep the evening pleasant. So at some point he’s going to tell you something you don’t want to hear, or something nobody has ever been brave enough to say to you.

That he can see you’re settling. That the sad story you keep telling yourself leaves out your responsibility. That you say you want a change, and then refuse to do the scary thing that will get you there.
It will sting. You might cry. You might want to call your best friend and tell her he was harsh.
But look at what he’s doing. He likes you enough to risk losing you. He loves you enough to want the best for you, and he knows you can’t become the best version of yourself without someone holding up a mirror.
The men who only ever tell you what you want to hear are protecting themselves. They want the easy evening, the next date, the good feeling.
My wife tells me things about myself that I don’t want to hear. Some of them had me swallowing my pride to admit she was right. Every one of them made me a better man, and a better husband to her.
Comfort and love feel the same at the start. A year in, you can tell the difference.
