Ask a man for his best friend's birthday, favourite colour, where he was born, or even how old he is. There's a good chance he has no idea.

It's not that he doesn't care about his mate. Men's brains just don't store that kind of detail.
Now ask a woman about her best friend. She can probably tell you the name of the guy her friend dated 10 years ago, the breed of the dog she had as a child, and her favourite theme park, even though she's never been to one.
That's how most women's brains work.
This is where a lot of disconnection in relationships comes from.
For a woman, remembering the details is the minimum sign of interest. So when her man forgets her sister's birthday or the name of her favourite café, it feels personal. It feels like he doesn't care, or isn't making the effort.
For him, it was never about effort. He just didn't store it.
My wife and I have had this exact moment more than once. She'd mention something that mattered to her, and a week later I'd have no memory of it. She took it as a sign that I wasn't listening. I took her reaction as a sign that I could never get it right.
Here's what changed things for us.
Women, when he forgets a detail, don't assume he doesn't love you. Look at what he does for you instead of what he remembers.
Men, if a detail matters to her, it has to matter to you. Write it down in your phone the moment she says it. Her friends' names, her favourite flowers, the dates that mean something to her. I got a whole list in my notes.
She would just love to know you listen, because that means she feels like you care, and that means she can relax, and if she can relax, you get all the appreciation and affection you love.
