A client texted me last week

She wanted to know why her man felt distant. I asked what had changed. She said nothing. Then she said she'd been pointing ways he could improve himself.

A client texted me last week: Jan-Willem van der Heiden, relationship coach

I see this constantly.

Women coaching their men into sensitivity, emotional availability, self-awareness. All good things on paper. But somewhere in that process, the polarity dies. He becomes responsive. Agreeable. Careful.

And she can't figure out why she doesn't want to fuck him anymore.

Polarity isn't about roles or rules. It's about energy. Masculine energy moves toward. Feminine energy responds. When you're the one directing, managing, improving him, you're in masculine. And he recedes because you've taken up all the forward space in the relationship.

I watch this with my wife. The moment I'm hesitant or looking to her for direction on something that's mine to handle, like an important decision, I can feel the shift.

Women don't want a project.

They want a man who owns his shit without being told. But they keep trying to fix him because the alternative is scarier. Letting him be who he is and deciding if that's enough.

The uncomfortable truth is this: you can't coach a man into being more masculine. Every time you try, you step further into the role you're trying to get him to fill. And then you resent him for the space you took.

Let him fail until he figures it out.

What you can't do is manage him into being the man you want and expect the attraction to survive.
