The Notebook is the perfect romantic fantasy for women
A man who never stops pursuing. Who fights for her, builds a house for her, reads to her every day when she can't remember who he is. He chooses her completely, repeatedly, across decades.

I'm not criticising the film. It does what it sets out to do. But it's worth asking: what would the male equivalent look like? A movie that actually moves them.
I'd argue it's something close to this.
A man is good at something but hasn’t figured out what yet. He tries, he fails. He works hard, he earns respect from people he respects, and the woman beside him sees him trying, and failing, and still believes in him. She doesn't try to change him. She doesn't need him to be more emotional or more available or more like what she imagined. She sees what he's building and she stands next to it.
That's not a love story women get told. The man in women's romantic narratives usually needs to be transformed by love. He was closed, now he's open. He was unavailable, now he shows up. The love is the thing that fixes him.
In the male version, love doesn't fix him. It supports him.
That’s why men love Rocky so much. Adrian, his wife is the real champion. Field of Dreams is another one. Ray builds a baseball field in his corn crop for reasons he can’t explain, and the town thinks he’s lost his mind. They’re close to losing the farm. His wife Annie backs him anyway, and she defends the field when her own family wants it gone.
Watch these movies with your man and watch how it lands for him.
